After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from UC Berkeley, Dr. Faktorovich received her Medical Degree with honors from UCSF School of Medicine. After completing ophthalmology residency at UCSF, she devoted two years to advanced sub-specialized training and research in laser and refractive surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA School of Medicine. While at the UCSF Department of Ophthalmology, Dr. Faktorovich was one of the first surgeons in San Francisco to perform automated lamellar keratoplasty - a corneal surgery precurser to the LASIK procedure to correct nearsightedness. She also developed methods for intracorneal implantation of ultra-thin lenses to correct nearsightedness and farsightedness.

As an Assistant Visiting Professor at the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute, Dr. Faktorovich performed and taught numerous LASIK procedures as well as other advanced laser and refractive surgery techniques. Dr. Faktorovich has made significant contributions to the field of refractive surgery by completing award-winning research on corneal healing following laser vision correction. Also at UCLA, she performed numerous corneal transplants and other corneal surgery procedures to restore vision not only in adults, but also in infants and children. In addition to publishing numerous articles, abstracts and book chapters on corneal transplantation and laser and refractive surgery, Dr. Faktorovich has been invited to lecture extensively both in the United States and abroad. She is on the editorial board of the San Francisco Medicine magazine and is the editor of the Eye Health column for the Outlook newspaper in San Francisco.
