A graduate of Alexandria University medical school, he trained in Internal Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic, then completed his residency training in Ophthalmology at the Kresge Eye Institute of Wayne State University. His research interests include new advances in cataract surgery and intraocular lenses, refractive surgery and ocular trauma.

Dr. Nader Iskander is a fellowship trained refractive surgery specialist and is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Wayne State University. Dr. Iskander specializes in new cutting edge vision correction procedures including LASIK.

He also specializes in advanced cataract extraction procedures and various anterior segment reconstruction echniques.

Dr. Iskander brings an international experience to the Kresge Eye Institute and Wayne State University. He attended he University of London prior to joining Alexandria University Medical School, where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree, and graduated with honors at the top of his medical school class. Dr. Iskander trained in Internal Medicine at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic. He then completed his residency training in Ophthalmology at the Kresge
Eye Institute and Wayne State University. His sub-specialty fellowship training in refractive surgery was completed at the world renowned Gimbel Eye Center in Calgary, Canada, where he was mentored by Dr. Howard Gimbel, M.D., who is widely considered as one of the most
influential refractive and anterior segment surgeons of the twentieth century.

This fellowship program provided Dr. Iskander with exposure to a wide array of vision correcting procedures and the
experience to offer this cutting edge technology to the patients of the Kresge Eye Institute.

In addition to his extensive experience in performing surgeries and teaching colleagues, Dr. Iskander has authored
several publications in refractive surgery. He has also made many presentations at major international meetings. Dr. Iskander has co-authored a textbook on LASIK surgery. He has also contributed as an author to the American Academy of Ophthalmology teaching monographs for ophthalmologists and ophthalmologists in training.

Dr. Iskander is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and is a member of the American Academy of
Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, International Society of Refractive Surgeons, and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

A self-described "laid back and friendly person", Dr Iskander tries to balance the demands of his profession without succumbing to the stresses it entails. Together with his wife, Nanis, he enjoys a variety of leisure activities,including bicycling, swimming and playing squash and tennis. He also enjoys travelling and speaks Arabic and some French in addition to English.
