I am seven months post-LASIK. My vision was much improved by the surgery. Formerly I had around seven diopters correction in each eye. I can now see without glasses, but not as well as I would like. I need glasses to see to drive at night, and I have trouble seeing the TV clearly without them.

My doctor says I have 20/20 vision in each eye (although I don't think I'm seeing that well), but that I have some astigmatism still. He has waited six months to make sure my lubrication has come back and that my eyes have settled down. He is now recommending that I have "astigmatism relieving incisions" on both eyes to improve my vision. He indicates that the risks are "infinitesmal" and that the surgery would be extremely minor (a couple of nicks).

Does this sound right? Should I be seeking a second opinion before going for the surgery? The doctor is an opthamalgic surgeon and has an excellent reputation as far as I can find out.

Thanks.

You may have mixed astigmatism and not all lasers can correct it. Incisional surgery can work well for that in the hands of an experienced surgeon. I had that type of astigmatism corrected in my left eye 6 years ago with a good result. At Cedars-Sinai we would correct it with the Autonomous Laser as I feel it is more predictable.
