Good Morning All,
I had Custom Cornea WavefrontLasik Surgery on 3/12/05 and even after surgery still have some astygmatism in each eye. It is effecting me enough that if i work on a computer or read for an extended amount of time that I get headaches. I have continued to use drops and have had two follow-up visits where they have found no concerns. Each time I have complained about the blurry vision, they have said that it may take up to 3 months for my eyes to stabalize.
My question to you is whether or not the eyes are capable of adjusting for an astygmatism? Primarily it was the astymatism that lead me to the decision to have the Lasik in the first place. I am currently seeing 20/30 but if the astygmatism stays, I will need to get glasses to be able to do my job. Is it likely that I will need a touch-up procedure to be able to correct the astygmatism?
Any information would be greatly appreciated. I understand that without knowing all the specifics that anything you offer is just an opinion, but at this point I just want to know where I probably stand.
Many Thanks

After only a week, your healing process has just started. Depending on your starting script, it could take months before your healing and regression stabilize to give you a reasonable idea of your eventual visual acuity. Induced astig is somewhat common, especially on higher scripts and h-lasik. It usually decreases with healing but may not entirely resolve. An enhancement could be warranted after 6 months or so if you can now be refracted to a solid 20/20. What was your original script? For now, take your drops and use what ever correction you need to see well to reduce eye strain and headaches.

It is too early to tell whether you will need a touchup and if you do it is usually not done for at least 2 months and even then only if the refraction is stable. If you are having a lot of trouble, you could try a pair of glasses to help while you are healing even though they may change so wait until you have 2 readings 2 weeks apart that are nearly the same. Chances are you will improve and if you need a touch up you should do well.
