Am I a good candidate for a lasik procedure with astigmatism?
I’m 35 year old. I have no previous eye problems. I can drive and watch TV do dayly task shopping, cooking, cleaning etc. with out any glasses and contact lenses. I am a software developer engineer so I usually wear glasses when I work on the computers. I work with computer long hours least 6 to 8 hours a day. I have been wearing glasses almost 14 years now. I have minor astigmatism.
O.D +1.00 -1.50x4
O.S +0.75 -1.25x175
My problem are my eyes get dry some times or I feel my eyes are dry. Some times I use eye drop some times or usually I don’t use eye drops. When I work with computers usually wearing eye glasses more than 4 hours long I feel discomfort and slight headache.
I went couple of times to my eye doctor for discomfort and slight headaches he just changed my ultra light glass lenses to plastic lenses and I still have discomfort and slight headaches. My eye doctor told me that I don’t like to wear eye glasses. He also suggest me the getting lasik procedure.
Am I lasik procedure candidate?
What lasik procedure is the best for my situation?
How much it will cost?
What is the percentage that I can get the 20/20 vision?

I would be worried about the dry eye thing. Lasik can make it worse. Also your pescription sounds very low and you dont depend on glasses much in the first place. Whats your uncorrected vision? Im assuming 20/40 since you drive without glasses. Hyperopic astigmastic lasik is tricky and results are less predictable than myopic lasik. There is no guarantee where youll end up and no guarantee you still wont have headaches and dry eyes after lasik. Your very mild hyperopia can be accomodated for now. I have a friend who says he used to be at least 20/15, possibily 20/10 now hes 20/30 because of moderate astigmastim, perhaps 2 diopters. He asked to have lasik but the surgeon just laughed and said his uncorrected vision is already fine and that he doesnt need glasses nor lasik. He also says he wont be happy if he doesnt end up at least 20/15 after lasik. With that info, we both agreed he shouldnt get lasik.

Will you be happy after lasik, especially with your very mild pescription and very low dependancy on glasses and already good uncorrected vision, legal to drive? Its up to you but in my opinion, I definately dont believe its worth the risks for so little gains, especially with your dry eyes. You could wait till presbyopia sets in. By then, lasers will become more advanced and you can have your worse eye corrected into slight myopia for monovision.(perhaps leaving the other alone for distance)
