My Name is Asim Rehman and I am 26 years old male from Pakistan. I used to wear glasses since 1999 and my prescription at that time was

Left Eye: -1.75 -1.00 180 6/6
Right Eye: -2.5 no Cylinder 6/6

I used these glasses for almost 2 years till 2001 and I was very comfortable with them and had not any minue problem.then I suddenly quit wearing those glasses (hardly wears) and walk n work uncorrected in order to just reduce dependency on glasses and now after 4 years of without glasses (exam on 10-aug-2005) my eyesight regressed to

Right Eye: Sph -2.00 Cyl:-2.25 6/6
Left Eye: Sph -1.5 Cyl:-3.00 6/6

Note; No
Karatoconus & other disease found in eye exam

I have a very strong regret that my eyesight worsens because of not wearing those glasses (an Ophtholmologist told me that as I did''nt wear my glasses for too long so it is because of "Squintting"{of the eyes that caused this severe astigmatism). Plz tell me is it because of that (and do I have a genuine regret?) or it was a natural Phenomenan which was unavoidable? and also can I treat this severe Astigmatism as I am not feeling comfortable with glasses due to this high amount of astigmatism (Life is all Blurry without glasses Ah! & glasses always put strain on my eyes and I am always in trouble 24/7). These days I am thinking seriously about LASIK too.Plz tell me . looking forward to hear from any of the board Docs.

Also I had my Orbscan done recently and have following readings.

OS OD
PBFS 52.9D 52.4D
Difference 0.026mm 0.028 mm
K1 47.0 dptr 46.4 dptr
K2 43.4 dptr 43.4 dptr
WTW 11.5mm 11.4mm
Pupil Dia 4.7mm 4.8mm
Thinnest Point 600um 600um
Pachy Ratio 1.11um 1.11um

Also I will be happy if any of the Board Doc will review my Orbscan through email.

You got your first pair of glasses when you were 20. When did you notice your vision going? Im guessing much before that and you delayed getting glasses till you couldnt stand it anymore. What was your uncorrected vision when you got your first pair? Im gonna estimate 6/36 correctable to 6/6(you said this)

Have you ever drove? If you do, its not wise or legal to do so without correction. You mentioned you walk instead. Thats fine and makes great exercise :)

I noticed you became *less* myopic but more astigmastic so in a way your eyes got better and also got worse. Whats your uncorrected vision now? Probably 6/48 or 6/60 now. I would not blame not wearing glasses for this. My brother almost never wears glasses and he became half a diopter less myopic but his astigmastim went up by half a diopter. Still he says his uncorrected visual accuracy has not dropped and is holding at 20/70-ish(about 6/18)so he doesnt feel "handicapped" without glasses.

Are you seeing clearly with glasses? have you asked your optometrist why they give you headaches? too strong? wrong pescripton? wrong lenses? Straining and squinting? You could ask for weaker glasses, this should help, especially if you do alot of near work. I have a pair of "computer" glasses that makes me see 20/100 but its clear for computer work whereas strong glasses give me 20/30 but its a strain for up near. Another option is bifocals. I would try my glasses idea before getting lasik. You seem like a good lasik candidate judging by your tiny pupils and thick cornea.

Thanks for your reply ace. yeah, I delayed wearing glasses I actually became myopic when I was 18 (at that time just -0.5 in both eyes) but I never wear those glasses untill 1999.

yeah, I sometimes drove too without my glasses (now thought not a good idea at all). I have a really strong regret of not wearing those mild myopic glasses (which were really very comfortable) and I really belive that my vision change in because of that :(

yeah, I checked my prescription many times.and they said there is no problem with the prescription and it will take time for adoptation. and I went to 5 different eye docs in last 4 months and all said same.but I am really in trouble:(

There is no evidence glasses or no glasses will change the rate your eyes get worse, although some say using minus glasses for near work may make your eyes worse faster. I would have also done the same, not wear glasses for -.5 diopters, it just wasnt needed. Not wearing glasses did NOT make your eyes worse faster. In fact you are LESS myopic. what got worse was your *astigmastim*

let me tell you again. My brother almost never wears glasses and his eyes have NOT gotten worse!
