I'm researching lasik as an option for astigmatism correction. I've lived with glasses my entire life. I'm now 35 and still very active. Unfortunately, due to the perceived severity of my astigmatism, I am fearful to even schedule a consultation to discuss the feasibility of astigmatism correction weary of more bad news. I'm a bit of a pesimist (:>)
My prescription reads as follows:
Right +1.75 Sphere, -1.75 Cylinder, 175 Axis
Left +1.25 Sphere, -1.75 Cylinder, 174 Axis
Granted, there are other factors not presented here, but is there any hope in achieving 20/20 ( or near 20/20) vision through a lasik procedure or any other corrective options??? Tks, Randy

Randy,
I had a residual script similar to yours after primary h-lasik, only less, about +1.25 sphere and -1.25 cylinder in both eyes. CK resolved both down to less than 0.5 D and 20/20 BUCVA. Using CK to treat astigmatism is still "off label" but appears to be an excellent option if done by a CK specialist familiar with this treatment. CK is much less invasive than lasik. No flap cutting, no dry eye, and only a day or so of minor discomfort.
I highly recommend it.

Hi,
I had Lasik 8 1/2 years ago. I have astigmatism and was very very blind...everything was blurry, wore glasses and contacts my entire life. Lasik was a gift from GOD very happy with it...however, just had an enhancement 9 years later and am devastated with the results. Went to the same surgeon, obvious miscommunication. MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR SURGEON IS TELLING YOU AND ASK HIM TO VERIFY EXACTLY WHAT HE MEANS BY HIS STATEMENTS. WHEN MINE TOLD ME I WOULD SEE BETTER FOR DISTANCE, I COULD STILL SEE NEAR, YEARS LATER WITH THE 'ENHANCEMENT' I CAN NO LONGER SEE UP CLOSE, HE SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME HE WAS TAKING IT AWAY. GO TO A WELL RESPECTED SURGEON IN FACT, IF THERE IS ONE DOCTOR IN YOUR AREA THAT EVERY ONE GOES TO, GO THERE. I now am seeing a cornea specialist to correct the mistake my surgeon made, but won't admit to. OTHER THAN THAT, I LOVED LASIK MY FIRST TIME AROUND AND WAS THRILLED WITH MY VISION FOR 8 1/2 YEARS, JUST MOURNING THE LOSS OF WHAT I HAD AND NOW IS GONE. good luck
