I am severely nearsighted, with an astigmatism in both eyes.
Am I a canadidate for Lasik? I have been wearing contacts and glasses
for 17 years now and am so tired of it. My glasses are super thick, even
though they are the "condensed" type lense. Needless to say, I wear
my contacts a lot! I heard that the more nearsighted you are the less your chances of this procedure working for you. Thanks for any information.
There are many factors involved in determining whether you are a LASIK candidate, besides your prescription that your LASIK surgeon will consider, but prescription is a good place to begin.
Your initial prescription will play a role in the outcome of your surgery, as will your age, eye health, general health, and most importantly, the skill of the surgeon who does the procedure. Our statistics show that with increasing age and degree of myopia the liklihood of achieving "perfect" 20/20 or better vision will diminish slightly. However, even seniors and those with very strong corrections are overwhelmingly likely to achieve vision within a couple lines of 20/20. Our eldest LASIK patient is 80 years old, and happy with his successful surgical outcome.
