Hi,
I have been heavily researching the idea of having lasik surgery done. I am 31 years old and have worn contacts since I was about 16 years old and my vision is -10.75 and I can't see clearly by literally about 6 inches from my face. I hear a lot about halos, starbursts, etc... and I was wondering if that goes away in time. Also my husband will not support me having any lasik that is NOT approved by the FDA for my vision so I am wondering what that is currently. I am told by my eye dr. that the FDA is slow and it would be fine but have not had any evaluations done yet. Currently, with my contacts I see like a halo effect around things in the dark for example the moon or headlights and am wondering if it is similiar as what is being talked about. My husband believes from what he read it is more of how a bird would see for example the object is very clear but everything around it is one big blur not just a halo. If it is like what my husband says and I can't see clearly past the object I am focusing on or around I would like to know just how common that is and if goes away because he believes once it happens it probably can't be fixed and you only have 1 set of eyes. I would appreciate any feedback regarding halos and the FDA approval.

I had lasik surgery done and am very satisfied, however patients with -10 and -11 are at greater risk than I was as I was -7 and -6 with small amount of astigmatism. From all my readings those with very high prescription take longer to heal and if you have small pupil size in dim light less than 6 you will have less chance of glare. Go to BB chicagolasercenter.com and ask same question. Have you been examined yet? There are a lot of factors to check and get the BEST lasik surgeons in your area to examine you and get a second opinion. FDA has approved this but you need to get all the facts about your eyes before you procede.

Jim,
Thank you for your response. I will check out the web-site you recommended. I have not been checked out yet but I am guessing I have a larger pupil size at night because I have horrible night vision which I am assuming means my pupils are bigger. Well, so long it is a road I have been on I am fine but god forbid on those dark nights and I am in a new area I miss my exits and have even went up the wrong way of the road to find out very quickly I need to turn around. Thanks again.
