How long will the flap healed totally after the lasik and can the flap works as normal and afford the stress and pressure. By the way if the patient got central island after Lasik how long will it take to appear and is there any way can prevent it? Such as normal eye check? By the way, is the high eye pressure a cause of central island? Thank you!

The LASIK flap heals, but the structure of the cornea is different than other parts of the body. It would be inappropriate to compare LASIK flap healing with the healing of a cut on your arm. Full details of the stages of LASIK flap healing are available at http://www.usaeyes.org/faq/subjects/lasik_flap_heal.htm
A central island is normally immediately noticeable to patient and surgeon. Central islands are prevented by careful attention to the condition of the cornea bed before and during laser ablation, and the advanced technology of todays flying spot and variable slit lasers.
High internal eye pressure would not cause a central island, but if severe and left unchecked, high intraocular pressure (IOP) can cause permanent nerve damage and vision loss. High IOP is normally treatable with medications and/or surgery.
