I had Lasik performed on June 2. By June 10th I had cells under the flap in the right eye. They were removed on July 8th. Before they were removed my refraction was -2.50 +2.50 and I had a very bizarre backward c in the right eye. I was hoping removing the cells would make that visual disturbance go away, because the week before they appeared, nothing seemed abnormal in that eye. Since the cells were removed, I am now about a -1.75 in the right eye and told that I don't have any astig. My question is that I still notice ghosting and slight arc to the left, as before the cells were removed. Is this possibly due to epthi. remodeling or from the scrapping or from the cells causing damage or a combination of all of it and I just need time to let it all level out? Looking through a pin hole clears this up perfectly also. Please, any insight would be appreciated. I now have glasses while I wait for an enhancement, but the glasses do not completely remove this visual disturbance. I also have an increase in floaters within my visual field. Is this normal and will they go away? Thank you for your help.

I saw your other thread. Did the scaping of cells help any? I noticed you are down to -1.75 How well can you see now? Do you have enough cornea for an enhancement and do you want to risk an enhancement and also give up some ability to focus from near? As for pinholes clearing the problem, then maybe the problem is not centeralized. If your vision in broad daylight is just fine because of your pupils being small, this also explains matters. If your glasses do not remove everything, you may have irregular astigmastim and high order abberivations. As for floaters, they often settle down after a while. Have you gotten any recent topographies? This might be the key to diagnosing any problems. Hope to hear from you again and I wish you improvement

"As for pinholes clearing the problem, then maybe the problem is not centeralized."

What do you mean by maybe the problem is not centeralized?

"If your vision in broad daylight is just fine because of your pupils being small, this also explains matters."

When I look at lights at night or clock lights during the day, I notice the ghosting and the smearing to the left, in the same direction the cells were originally and where the scraping was performed.

"If your glasses do not remove everything, you may have irregular astigmastim and high order abberivations."

Glasses used to provide a perfectly crisp, clear 20/20 if not 20/15. Now, except for the floaters in both eyes and the visual disturbance described earlier in the right eye, it would be really good with glasses, but not as before.

"As for floaters, they often settle down after a while."

I CAN'T WAIT FOR THEM TO GO AWAY!!!! ;)

"Have you gotten any recent topographies? This might be the key to diagnosing any problems."

No, nothing recent. I will request one at the next appointment on the 15th. Could the visual disturbance in the right eye still be epthi. remodeling that needs to happen? I have read that it can take some people 3 to 6 months before their eye fully heals, could this be the case?

I really didn't go with this surgery to still require glasses to see all the time. The screen in front of me is not clear without glasses, and nothing past it is clear without glasses, so yes, God willing, I will have an enhancement when the time comes so that I may see as I did with my contacts, but with the blessing to see with my eyes unaided. Thank you for asking.

Pinhole glasses block light except for about 2mm in the center. Any disortions not in the center of your vision would be blocked out.

This sucks :( do you notice anything if you go outside in broad daylight and look at the trees? Does bright light take care of any disortion?

I wish I could be refracted to 20/20 myself. You were -9 if I remember so with spectical minification, your 20/20 was minified to the size of 20/17! I used to be 20/25 corrected 11 years ago when I was -1. Now my eyes have gotten worse and im -5 and closer to 20/30 but im used to it and its clear to me. I hope you end up 20/15 after a (wavefront?)enhancement :)

"I CAN'T WAIT FOR THEM TO GO

What do they look like? tiny transparent particles or big black cobwebs? Perhaps your opthamologist can look into your eyes and comment on those floaters?

I wouldnt know about the epthi. thing but you can find out next appointment. A topography can tell the full story and exactly whats causing your disortions. As for the 3-6 month healing thats much more common with PRK from what I read.

I understand how you desire to eliminate your dependancy on distance glasses. It can be truly an exciting thing :) With -1.75 diopters, the near point would be 57cm so if you sit further than that from your monitor, it would start to gradually blur. Ask your doctor if you are a candidate for wavefront enhancement. Wavefront is customized that also removes high order abberivations. Wavefront is approved for up to -6 diopters which you are way below that now. However I am not a doctor as said before so no one here gets confused so you will need to discuss this with your own. If your doctor gives the go ahead with wavefront then your chances are better and we could just imagine the smile on your face when you end up 20/15 with no disortions :) :D

I got a question on my own: would you reccomend lasik to anyone so far? What would you say to someone looking into lasik?

When I talk to people that are lower, like below a -5, I think HEY you should do this, because I feel they will be thrilled BUT I want them to consider Lasek first, because then there isn't any fear of the flap. But for people as high as I was, I would caution them to be sure they are prepared NOT to see the next day, just in case. I read other boards and so many people as high as I was or higher are happy the next day. Don't understand why my eyes fought me on this (over hydrated). The floaters, some are dots, some are lines. They seem to swim with my eyes in a hurricane fashion. If I move my eye to the left, the floaters swirl and there seems to be blurry blobs in the middle, same when I move to the right.
Centralized, do you mean it's something towards the outside of my viewing field? I am still confused, but the pin hole does make it better and I have told her about this.
When I brought up the floaters, she didn't seem worried about it, but they make me crazy. How long before they die away? My Dad said something interesting. What if it's not floaters at all, but fluid in the eye, like water, that is still there due to trauma from surgery and that's why it seems to swim and as soon as my eyes are healed, the swelling/water will go away. Just makes sense when you think about bruises and cuts, how the body reacts.
How come you can't be corrected with glasses to 20/20? My contacts/glasses always provided good vision, which is why I thought I'd be fine with surgery.

Trees, most everything is fine, except lights, anything with light appears to ghost to the lower left and bleed to the left. To the exact direction of where the cells where and where the scraping occured. That is why I hope it's just extra trauma so extra healing but that it will match back up to the left eye. They were both the same until the cells occured, then everything went downhill in the right. The floaters....they seem to have come up about 3 weeks after surgery....it couldn't be all the rewetting drops could it?
