PreLASIK: OD -8.5 + 1.5. After my enhancement (12 weeks ago), I seem to be left with some irregular astimatism. Dilated vision OD is +0.25 +0.25. Age: 36. Daytime vision is 20/20. Night vision prior to LASIK was bad but now it's worse. When I am out at night, this eye sees double (or quad) vision on red lights, the moon, and large blurred halos/starbursts on white headlights. Pupils are 5mm and shining a light toward them while looking at the lights does not change my vision. But, I have no real problems reading freeway signs (white on green) or speed limit signs. Contrast seems okay but anything illuminated is a problem. Red LED's even in daylight are doubled. I don't understand why I can read signs at night but see 4 moons and lots of red light distortion. Any ideas? Any possible fixes? My doc says she can't do anything more with a laser.

It seems hard to explain. With really good daylight vision, it's hard to believe that you'd have significant irregular astigmatism, although any problems are typically worsened in low light.
You may want to consider a second opinion at the Moran Eye Institute at the University. From my understanding, they are very good, and can at least let you know if there is anything wrong.
Good Luck, Dean Hu

Thanks, my LASIK was done at the Moran Vision Center which is the refractive surgery branch of the Moran Eye Center. My doc is one of the main surgeons here. In defense though, as we were discussing this, we were doing the pre-op on my other eye which was found to have a cataract. This became the more serious line of discussion.
The only comment my doc made (to an intern I believe) was that small differences (even 6mm) in the height of the ablation can cause distortion. I have a copy of my Orbscan II but can't see anything too "out of the ordinary". If it was, my day vision would obviously be affected. Can small height differences in the ablation cause 1 main and 2 secondary ghost images but allow good day vision?
Thanks for your help.
