Are moxifloxacin hydrochloride ophthalmic solution drops required before the WaveScan System readings are measured from the patients eye?

Also should the patient look directly at or beyond the red light during the measurement process?

Thanks

Wavefront diagnostic is a "real world" evaluation of low and high order aberrations. Because it is real world, you would not want any unusual eye drops or anything that would change the way you normally see. The only reason additional drops would be administered is to take a wavefront reading that deliberatly includes vision with those drops.

The patient should look directly at the light in the machine and relax. Focusing is not desired, but not necessarily problematic if you do.

Wavefront diagnosis requires multiple tests that are complied to create a good static determination of the aberrations of a dynamic vision system.

What are some of the possible side effects if this was the process used during my CustomVue LASIK proceedure?

During the procedure is a horse of a different color.

Wavefront is a map. A very detailed map. After the map has been created during the diagnostic sessions, these issues are not so critical. Like a printed road map, once it is printed it stays the same. Applying moxifloxacin hydrochloride to your eyes would not change the map that was previously created.

I was given two moxifloxacin hydrochloride ophthalmic solution drops 3 to 8 minutes before the WaveScan System readings were measured, and during the process I was instructed to look beyond the red light, atleast 3 times? The WaveScan technician even mentioned something to the PA about not administering drops before the WaveScan readings.

My surgery was two weeks ago and my vision is not clear, everything seams to have ghost images around them. This condition makes it very difficult to read text and operate a computer, which by the way is my profession. I am experiencing dry eye but I am using Refresh Tears about every 30 to 60 minutes for treatment.

The reason for these questions is because I don't know anyone else who has undergone CustomVue, so I can’t compare the healing process. I have spoken to six other regular LASIK patients but none of them have experienced anything like myself.

Please Advise

You and I can speculate what, if any, effect the drops may or may not have had, but we don't even know if the drops are related to your vision difficulties. Let's do one better.

How about if we get you to a doctor for a second opinion? You can contact me directly at or Dr. Trattler who operates this website may have a recommendation.

I think a comprehensive diagnostic examination of your eyes would be a valuable step toward resolution of your problem.
