What is the range that the Lasik surgery goes for?

Prices for Lasik surgery really vary. Although you don't want to be taken advantage of, I really believe it is important to have the surgery done by a doctor you trust, no matter the cost. Your vision is priceless, and there are some stories on this board of bad outcomes that should make anyone think twice about surgery.

I personally had surgery in early January, and couldn't be happier! I've heard of clinics that will do both eyes for $1000, and I've heard of surgeries that cost over $5000 for both eyes. My surgery was $4000 for Wavefront Lasik with a Visx S4 laser and mikrokeratome. Had I chosen to go with the non-wavefront Lasik, it would have been about $3200.00. This cost also covers all of my follow-up appointments and any enhancements needed for the first year (I am 20/20 now with no enhancements). All of my follow-ups are with the doctor who performed my surgery, who happens to be my regular eye doctor. I've heard of some places that offer something called lifetime acuity or something similar by another name, where they will provide enhancements for you the rest of your life if your vision regresses to a certain limit (20/40?). I think the price is going to vary the most between a private doctor with his own office, and a lasik clinic. You will also have large variations based on the technology being used.
