Hi,
I am 1 mo. post-LASIK with only moderately dry eyes (not enough to be painful/bothersome). I notice that right after putting in my wetting drops for a few seconds, I can see crystal clear, but soon things at far distance get a little fuzzy and this gets worse and worse until I put in drops again (about once an hour or every two hours).
My question is, will my final result after healing be the vision that I experience when the drops are first in?
Thanks.
Sara

I have the same thing. My vision sharpens after artificial tears but then returns to the 20/40 it is the rest of the time. Will my vision improve?

Hello
I am also in the same situation. I had LASIK 7 months ago for high myopia (-11 and -10). Immediately post surgery, and for the next 2 months, I had fantastic vision, almost 20/20, which considering my prescription beforehand, was incredible.
But for the last 5 months, my vision has gradually worsened, to the point where I am now -1.5 and -1.25. I need glasses for driving and watching TV.
But when I put drops in, my vision is crystal clear, and this lasts for maybe 10 seconds. Also, my vision when I wake up is far better than later in the day - my vision gradually worsens as the day goes on.
But I don't have typical dry eye syndrome ie I don't get gritty eyes and generally don't need to use eye drops for comfort.
If anyone knows what this all represents, please do let me know, as it is very frustrating not knowing whether I should seek treatment for dry eye, or simply accept my eyesight is not as good as it was post surgery.

Hi all above,
You all seem quite concerned.
Nicola, your bluriness could also be partly due to your 1, 1.5 refractive errors. When any lubricating eye drops are put in the eye, it forms a layer on the cornea. Hence when it is thick and uniform it creates or lets say negates your 1 or 1.5 number and hence you see clearly for a while. This film breaks up after a while and few blinks.
For most however it could be a dry eye problem due to insufficient tears. It is usually advisable to use artificial tears or lubricating eye drops for a few months after LASIK as during LASIK, the corneal nerves are cut during the flap making process. This reduces the corneal sensations for a few weeks after LASIK, until corneal innervation is restored. In practice this means that you may subconciously blink less, and can lead to dry eyes. The tear film restores in most people after LASIK, IF they had normal tear break up time and had tested normal for a tear film test such as Schirmers test.
What is advisable is to use the lubricating eye drops, as they cause no harm, its safe to use over long periods of time, esp with the computer use.
Those who actually show moderate to severe dry eyes there are higher generation drugs like Restasis, but that is if you test positive for dry eyes on a quantitative test like Schirmers. Test, which uses graded litmus paper and you know your score.
I hope this info is useful.

I'm 5 weeks from surgery now, and was -5.50 in each eye.
Initailly I was very concerned (and very impatient), thinking I was headed for a enhancement for certain. I too had the drops giving me great vision, only to fade once they were absorbed. But, now my vision is really starting to sharpen up. Its not a noticable thing on a daily basis, but in the last week or two, my eyes have really started to sharpen.
The reason I really know, is that I'm not complaining and worring as much as i was. I was 20/50 in each eye one week after surgery, and 20/20 and 20/25 at my one month check up.
I can honestly say I feel 20/20 in both now, if not borderline 20/15.
I still have dry eyes a tad, so i use the drops one every hour or two. A buddy at work who also had surgery a year ago, said he stayed with the drops for about 2 months... his wife (who has alergies) was on drops for about 4 months.
I guess what I'm saying is hang in there... its hard, I know, but it really does take time. I really am seeing some benefits now!
