I am 6 weeks post op from intralase/wavefront Lasik. I've
had dry eye since the first week and have tried a number of
drops. At my two week check up they put in temporary
punctal plugs. I didn't feel a thing and for a week my eyes
felt great. One week later the dryeness started and I was
using either Systane or Refresh Liquigells at least once per
hour all day long. I bumped up my 6 week checkup to today
because my dryness seems to be getting progressively
worse. Today the doc put in "permanant" punctal plugs. All
seemed well until the numbing drops wore off on my way
home. Now it feels like I have a toothpick in my left eye. I
can't tell tell if the dryness is any better because the pain in
my left eye is taking up all my attention. Tomorrow is
Thanksgiving, so I couldn't go back even if I wanted to.
Should I give the plugs more time to "settle in" or should I
have them taken out?

Punctal plugs do not "settle." They should not be noticeable. If this one is bothering you, it should probably be removed.
