I got Wavefront Lasik done about 13 days ago, on February 24th. I was happy with both eyes the day after surgery at my post op examination.. The day after the surgery, my left Eye was about 20/20 and my right eye was about 15/20 with a little blurriness. My vision before the operation was about -6.0 in both eyes with some astigmatism,. But about 3 days ago, my left eye starting feeling like there was something in my eye , like an eyelash and my vision suddenly changed. Now it’s blurry in the left eye and it seems like there’s a shadow when I read letters. (It seemed like my vision changed about (.5-.75). I went in to see one of the Doctor’s yesterday and they found an eyelash in my eye. They said the eyelash may have caused some irritation and that my eye has a little dry patch that may have caused the sudden change in vision. They said give it a day or two to see if my vision gets better and recommended using drops and gel. I haven't been using drops or gel that often, since my eye never felt dry. I’m a little worried that it won’t get better, since a day has passed. I just don’t understand how my vision can fluctuate so much and for the worse. Can dry eye or and eyelash really change my vision that much? It’s supposed to get better, not worse? It’s been bad for about 3 days now and has not improved. I first thought it may have due to lack of sleep because I was up late over the weekend and have not been able to sleep that well the few days after the post op. Please let me know your thoughts or if anyone has experience this problem or has any recommendations. I’m worried. Isn’t yer vision supposed to gradually improve, not all of a sudden turn for the worse?!

Yes your vision can change that much if you have dry eye. You can have dry eye without knowing it. Remember that all of your corneal nerves were severed during surgery so your eyes aren't getting the proper information to produce the correct amount of tears. My eyes fluctuated drastically for several months. This is normal. I had 20/15 left and 20/15 right just 3 days after surgery. That fell to 20/25 and 20/20 respectively. My eyes have no settled at 5 months post surgery to 20/20 left and 20/15 right. My left eye unfortunately has a .25 astigmatism that crept back in. Although I can see 20/20 with it, I find contrast is way off compared to my right eye.

You absolutely have to keep your eyes hydrated to heal properly. Go to www.dryeyezone.com as well as here and you will find an enormous amount of info. While this site is fantastic, I found dryeyezone had more info on of course dry eyes. I hope this helps.

My left eye was also extremely blurry at times and nothing seemed to help. Keep those eyes hydrated, but you need to refrain from using too many. Not enough and too many will both have negative effects.

Hi Shawn,

Thanks for your reply. It's a little more comforting knowing that someone else has gone through this.

It's been about 4 days since my vision has changed. I've been putting drops in every hour or so, but i have not seen any improvement in my eye. Every morning I wake up, hoping for that crisp vision i had a few days after the surgery. I have also noticed that I see shadows with my left eye now.

Thanks...I'll try look on dryeyezone.com Let me know if you have any other recommendations.

Yeah, I was going absolutely crazy. My left eye has always been better than the right with glasses and 3 days after surgery, it was much clearer than it is now. I really shouldn't complain about 20/20 vision though. I had SEVERE dry eyes and tried literally everything. I tried Refresh Plus, Refresh Celluvisc, Refresh Endura, Refresh PM, Bion Tears, Systane, Genteal Moderate, Genteal Severe Gel, Dakrina, Nutratear and Dwelle. I gave each a good chance by using them for several weeks. Refresh Plus was comfortable, but didn't last long. Bion Tears was fantastic, but it was way too expensive for the amount I was using. Genteal Severe Gel for night was fantastic. I finally settled on Dakrina or NutraTear for daytime and Dwelle for nights. I use Dakrina for really dry days, NutraTear for normal to moderate days. I chose the Dwelle over the Genteal Gel because it wasn't as thick and was more cost effective. Both are fantastic products. Dakrina and Dwelle are almost identical in their composition. Dakrina contains Vitamin A (inactive). Dwelle seems just a tad thicker which is why it's recommended for night.

Thanks for all your help and comforting words. I went to go see the optometrist on Saturday and they said I probably just have dry eyes and I should continue using drops. It's been about 3 days and I still use drops every hour or so.(It gets expensive though...but my eyes are worth it) I think I like using refresh Endura and Refresh Celluvistic. I interchange these two depending on how dry my eyes are. My vision has definitely been getting a bit better (or at least it seems that way, or maybe i'm just used to the blurred vision.) I think using ointment at night helps a lot. The optometrist gave me tears again to use. My eyes still seem very dry late night and in the mornings, but a lot better during the day. I've also been taking fish oil and flaxseed.

I'll keep everyone updated, and thanks for all the help

Hi,

I'll let you know what my current prescription is when I go in for my checkup next week. I can tell you this much...My eyes don't bother me much anymore when I'm on the computer and I don't need to use eye drops as often anymore.
I'm currently happy with my vision and see a lot more clearly. I am able to see at night time and also clearly during the day. I'm still hoping it gets just a little better.

I'll keep you posted.
