Hi, My question is that how much you can put artificial tears and also is there any signs where we need to stop putting them. Recently I was putting them very often even after every 15 minutes but now I found from one website that it is dangerous to put them too often. Any idea please let me know.

I would also like to know this anwer. I'm 8 1/2 weeks post prk with mild to moderate dry eye. Initiallly i used lubricating drop constantly. I've decreased to only 2-3 x a day. I'm not sure what is better. Maybe a doc could fill us in on this question.

I have had dry eye for 5 months now since I had epi lasek. I have viewed several sites for advice and on every topic you will hear different things. Always keep your eyes hydrated is on one site; you cannot use too much artificial tears etc. etc. but on others there is warnings against overuse of preservative based tears. I have had a bad week with the foreign object aspect being compounded by the soreness around the eyelids. I felt that I may be overdoing the tears so I have tried to refrain in the last 2 days and I have noticed a difference. Not much help I know but I thought I would let you know.I think sometimes it is very much trial and error with there being no "one size fits all" solution.

You must find the happy medium between too much and not enough. If you use them too much you will flush your natural tears away. Nothing replaces you god given formula. Not using them enough can cause vision problems related to dry eye. Try to use them as little as possible, but don't allow yourself to be uncomfortable. Make sure you aren't using any of the ointments for nightime use. Only use gel based lubricants or thicker artificial tears. The ointments can definately cause problems.

I am using Liposic which is a gel from B&L and using different lubricants like systane, tears naturale II, Liquifresh Gel and all of them seems to work for couple of seconds and whenever I blink I lost my crispy vision. I am not sure what should I do. I am so upset as Dr. Trattler also advised to wait for another couple of weeks. I am not sure how long I have to wait for my crispy vision.

You really need to have patients. The artificial tears you mentioned also cause my eyes to be blurry for a short time. There are several tears that don't do this. I am extremely happy with the 3 different tears available from dryeyezone.com. They last much longer and don't cloud my vision as much. Dakrina and Dwelle do it for a very short time. Nutratear doesn't do it at all. I find these work great for me. Bion Tears also did a great job. Bion Tears are just too expensive.

FreshKote from the same family as Dwelle and Dakrina is now available by prescription. This has been a life saver for many of us who knew about it! www.freshkote.com
