I had lasik in june of this year. How long will I need to keep using the drops and how often is recommended at this stage? I am currently using Allergan Refresh Tears, which work okay but are a little more expensive than others. Does it make a difference what I use? Is there something more effective to use at this point? The dry eye is not too bad at all but the last time I was at my eye doctors they said my eyes were a little dry. At this point in my healing process I am using the drops a few times per day. Is this enough? I also try to use refresh gel every night before going to bed. Will this make a difference overall as well? Thanks.

I think it varies a great deal from person to person. For example, a doctor where I work had it done, and 1 week later said he no longer needs any drops at all!
Compare this to me: For the first month at least, I needed artificial tears (Bion Tears) every 15 minutes!! If there was the slightest breeze outside, I needed wrap-around sun-glasses to help prevent the wind from drying out my eyes. Now it is 8 months later, and I only use drops once every 2-4 hours. I also am able to go outside even in gusty winds withOUT any sunglasses for protection, and still feel comfortable. This improvement has happened naturally...I do not have punctal plugs or anything like that. I also use Genteal Gel at bedtime.
I think the best you can do is keep up with your doctor appointments to make sure all is healing well, and use artificial tears as often as you need to in order to feel comfortable...odds are that regardless of how often you need them now, you will find that as the months go by, you need them less and less. I know it's hard, but just try your best to be patient. Eventually your eyes are bound to go back to "normal".

Thanks for the info! My eye doctor told me that my eyes are dry because I state at a computer monitor all day - so he suggested I use the drops every hour. At home he advised me to use them every 3-4 hours. Even though it's a pain my eyes do feel better with hourly drops. Cheers =)
