I am 6 months post-Custom/Intra-LASIK with astigmatism in one eye. He suggested that he perform a limbal relaxing incision (LRI) or AK on this eye as a solution to my relatively poor vision in this eye caused by the astigmatism.

Any suggestions on why I should or should not do this?
Is LASIK enhancement or LRI better at treating astigmatism?
Is LRI less dangerous than LASIK enhancement?
Is it effective?
Does it limit later enhancements?

Note: I had very severe photophobia for a month after my IntraLASIK procedure. He thought that this may be a better alternative as relifting the flap could cause reoccurence. But that was only temporary.

Thanks,
David

Since nobody answered me, I shall reply to myself. Research so far indicated that LRI is quite effective in reducing astigmatism, but have found much on it for Post-LASIK.

thanks

Treatments of this sort aren't run-of-the-mill. You should ask your surgeon how many of these s/he has done. I would be surprised if s/he had done a large number of them.

Anyhow, my take is that the incisions will not be done within the flap area, so as not to pose a future problem. Is that correct?

Yes you are correct, the incision is on the outer most peripheral of the cornea. I know that they have had great success treating astigmatism with this procedure, just can't find any history of anyone performing them on post-LASIK patients.

thanks,

FYI
I am 6 weeks post LRI and have had my astigmatism reduced from +1.75 to +0.50. This has made a significant difference in my mid to long range vision.

As expected, it did not help my overcorrection (+0.75).

Anyone risk a enhancement (flap relift or CK) to correct this overcorrection. +1.00 contact has given me excellent near and far vision (slight monovision)

thanks,
dave

I read with great interest of your LRI treatment to fix +1 D of astig. Are you a lasik survivor and what was your exact prelasik script and stable post lasik script before the LRI? I was left with about +1 D of astig after H-lasik in both eyes and am coping OK with light script glasses but if LRI is permanent and accurate it could be just the ticket.
