I had LASIK one year ago and had problems from the start. The machine "scratched" the flap on my right eye, so the doctor put a contact in as a bandaid. The next day, the doctor found that the flap had shifted and begun to heal in the wrong spot. He lifted the flap, cleaned out the epithelium and put another contact in. I went to see him 5 times that first week, and he found that I still had ingrowth. I had the flap lifted a second time and cleaned out, which did improve the vision somewhat. After that second lifting, the doctor determined that I still had some ingrowth, but it was "stable." In this year, I've always complained that the vision from that eye is not as good as the left -- it's blurred and can be very distracting/disorienting. I was told that it was because of dry eye, so I've gotten plugs put into all of my tear ducts and take fish oil daily. Still, a year later, the vision is not equal to the left. Now, the doctor says the problem is due to an astygmatism (the RX is +.5 -1.0 at axis of 65?) that can be corrected with an enhancement. HOWEVER, I run the risk of having ingrowth again and the procedure might not make it any better. I don't know what to do. On one hand, I feel like it couldn't possibly be worse. Then, I do searches online, and get scared that it can and will get worse. I know many people who had surgery by this doctor, and have had wonderful results, so I don't think competency is the problem. I just don't know if the best-case correction is worth the risk? PLEASE help!

How well are you seeing in each eye now? If your still seeing OK in the worse eye, id leave things be. If you still insist on an enhancement, ask your doctor if it can be done epi-lasek style. Another alternative is an RGP contact on the worse eye whenever you feel like it

I am not a doctor.

I know you got Lasik to not have to wear glasses, but can your vision be corrected with them at your eyes current state? The reason I asked this is after my first surgery my right eye was overcorrected, but glasses would have corrected this. I chose to have an enhancement and now I have "20/20" vision in it, but the quality is no good. I have ghost images that make it hard to see out of that eye. Glasses will NOT correct this problem. So I went from problem correctable with glasses to problem not correctable with glasses. I hope RGP's work when I try them later on. So If glasses correct your problem you may want to consider getting a pair of glasses and a pair of contacts. I know it sounds crazy to have to rely on the things you were trying to rid yourself of, but it's better than uncorrectable vision. Good Luck.

Matthew

He is correct an enhancement is a risk. Is the risk worth it to you? If you absolutely refuse to wear correction then theres more incentive for you to get enhanced since youd be comparing UCVA to whatever UCVA you end up with after enhancement

What is UCVA? RGP?

Honestly, I don't know what to do. The left eye is terrific, and together I can see fine a lot of the time (mainly during the day.) However, it's sometimes distracting because that right eye is blurry and I can just tell that it's working harder than the left. The doctor thinks it's worth a try; my cousin is an Optometrist, and she thinks that a 1.00 astygmatism is worth the try as well.

UCVA means uncorrected visual accuracy. With only one dipter of astigmastim, youll probably be a single line below your BCVA. Are you seeing perhaps 20/30 in that eye? RGP means rigid gas permable contact lense. Your also a tiny bit farsighted in that eye and its contributating to blur. The decision to get enhanced is left up to you. If you feel that eye is bad enough to take the risk and hope it improves your UCVA, good luck then.
