Hi,
Here is my background info:
Male, 24 years old. Had LASIK done 2 1/2 years ago at Kremer Laser in King of Prussia, PA. Pre-lasik I had a prescription of about -8.00 in both eyes. I had dry eyes for a about a year and a half but no longer have any problem with that. Now my prescriptions are about -.25 with a .25 astigmatism in my left eye and about -.65 with a .75 astigmatism in the right eye. I wear glasses for driving. When I had my surgery done I was told wavefront was not available for my prescription strength. I wish I had waited the 2 extra years to have it done because although my vision is close to 20/20 with both eyes open, I can't help but feel my vision is not as good as it was with contacts before surgery. I have the usual problems (halos and some blurring in the distance - esp at night) that I've read wouldn't be as bad if I had wavefront.
So here are my two questions. First, regarding my right eye (-.65) I'm told that the FDA has approved the use of wavefront lasik for prescriptions this small, but would it be a mistake to do it - I understand there are risks, but isn't there a greater chance it will correct the problems I am currently having? My doctor at Kremer said if my vision was any worse he'd be very much in favor of me having an enhancement, and if my vision was any better he'd be very much against me having it (which doesn't tell me what to do). I was planning on waiting another year or two anyway, but will this make any difference? Will technology improve in the next few years to make me more confident in such a decision or can anyone highly recommend doing it/not doing it under these circumstances?
And secondly, my left eye. Obviously it's not that bad (-.25) but like I said I have some problems with my vision that even though I can see close to 20/20 with it, I feel could be improved. Obviously I'm in no rush for this, but what does the future hold? Will it be possible in the next 5 years or so to have surgery to hopefully correct the problems my first procedure created? I regret jumping the gun a little bit and not being patient enough for a better surgery - but will I be able to correct my mistake in the future?
Thanks!
