I had custom Lasik done June 2006. My rx was a-6.00 in each eye. After surgery,my vision was 20/20. Upon revisiting my eye doctor weeks after,I had myopia in my left (dominant) eye and began to notice that my night driving was VERY blurry along with any"low light" situation...My rx is now -.75 in my left eye & -0.25 in my right. My surgeon recommends doing an enhancement in my left eye.He feels that since my "dominant" eye is nearsighted, correcting it would alleviate my problems.Any suggestions would help me out a lot. I obviously went thru Lasik to be contact & glasses free, but I'm not sure if I should have the enhancement done. Is there such a thing as a dominant eye and does it play such a big part? Thanks...amp

Yes there is a dominant eye for most people and it does play an important role in vision and depth perception. You may want to use our free dominant eye test at http://www.usaeyes.org/lasik/faq/lasik-monovision-dominant-eye.htm
Ask your doctor if it would be appropriate to wear a contact lens that would fully correct your eye. This will give you a real-world view of what would be the goal with enhancement surgery. If this resolves your problems, then have a serious discussion with your doctor about the potential benefits and potential risks of enhancement surgery.

A couple of months after Lasik is probably going to be enough that you could wear contact lenses, however you need to verify this with your eye surgeon. There are many different materials for contact lenses and your doctor will know what is best for you.

Has anyone heard of
someone who has had an enhancement that has actually helped clarity with their night vision? I have no problems with halos or glares, just blurriness. I'm considering an enhancement & am curious to know if anyone has hade success with night vision with an enhancement. Thanks...

Jim,
Lots of folks get enhancements to correct under or over correction for minor spherical errors and it almost always results in significant improvment. I did and it helped a lot. It's best to wait at least 3 or 4 months to let regression stabilize. 6 months is probably safest. Docs usually want patients to wait until their manifest and cyclopegic refractions yield the exact same results 2 months in a row. Coming from -6, you should probably wait a little longer. If your refraction ends up including any cylinder error the enhancement gets a little trickier. Use a temp contact to get you by as Glenn suggests.

Tom, Thanks for your response. What is "cylinder error"? I just had my second appointment when my eyes were dilated & I'm going to go ahead with the enhancement of my dominant eye only(20/40). My doctor believes that since my "dominant" eye has regressed, correcting that eye only should help my night blurriness. Any thoughts??

Well, I went ahead and had my dominant eye enhanced (was-0.75) and it made a huge difference with my night or low-light blurriness...Just thought I would share in case anyone was considering. It's nice to hear a good story once in awhile!

I am following down your enhancement path. My doctor wants to tune up my dominant eye first, then we will go from there.

Just curious...what is the main reason for having your dominant eye enhanced? If it is night blurriness,I think you'll have a good outcome! Keep us posted...
