I had custom lasik done on May 19. My vision seems great for the most part. I can see during the day fine. At night however I am seeing star burst on lights. All my other vision at night is fine for reading signs, etc....

My question is should I be worried that this is as good as my night vision will be. I never had a problem when I would wear contacts at night. My concern is that I am stuck with this. How long does it take to normally heal from this?

There is no need to panic now. There will be plenty of time for that later.

It is much too early to decide if you are stuck with the night vision problems you are experiencing. Your eyes are still healing and changes in vision quality should continue over the next 3-5 months.

Discuss with your doctor your symptoms and ask about the use of Alphagan P. This is an eye drop that will reduce the size of you pupils at night. Reducing pupil size can temporarily reduce or eliminate starbursting. This may get you by until your corneas have healed fully.

Thanks I feel a little better. I went with the custom becuase I thought it would elimate this problem. I guess the fact that I can see clearly is still better thank wearing my glasses or contacts. I don't drive to much at night anyway, now that it is warmer and light longer I don't notice it some much. I just hope it goes away.

I just wanted to update my starburst problem. I was experience very bad starburst. At night, street lights, car lights, and traffic lights would blend together making it difficult to drive. I would see some starbursting even during the day when driving through shaded areas, or at dusk sitting at traffic lights. They would get worse the darker it got.

I went back to the doctors, and the perscribed me the Alphagan P drops. This made a huge diffrence. I would put them in about 1/2 hour before driving. They did leave my eyes dry, which I think would make feel tired, but they helped.

Tonight I drove home without any drops. I do still see the starburst, but they do not seem as intense. When sitting at the traffice lights I do not see them on the on coming cars (where before, even at dusk, I would sit a traffic light and see them).

I know that my eyes have improved. I know my night vision is not perfect, but lights that had starburst before are not as bad.

I don't want to have to use drops forever, but I am hopeful, that maybe my eyes will continue to improve.

I just wanted to post an update and hopefully encourage someone who is angry, frustrated and even depressed that they may not see the same again. I felt that way, and I am happy to see some change.
