Hi mellissa,

....probably not the story you want to hear, but if your condition ends up anything like mine, then maybe a common denominator may surface.

And it goes a little something like this.

the year was 2000 in Johannesburg South Africa, I had Lasik on my Left eye as my right had been amblyopic since birth (i.e born with it half blind).

Now normally surgeons are relunctant to perform surgery if you only have 1 good eye, however at the time my surgeon had re-assured me that the worst that could happen would be that my good eye would stay the way it was. So therefore seen as I had absolutely had it with wearing my contacts I decieded lets go for it. (even though at this stage my good eye allowed me to read without glasses, maybe not so good from the back of a classroom, however I had no problems whatsoever driving at night).

If only I could turn back time.

From then (19yrs old) I've never been comfortable driving at night, I get the craziest halo's effects which gets even crazier if my eyes are slightly tired or dry (Drops only help for minutes). Talk about a life changing experience, especially when you work on shift pattern in an IT call centre - Tried drops, glasses the works, nothing really helped - I'd be a nerveous wreck at the end of my driving journey, a few near misses, once even road over a pavement and had a blowout @ 2am in the morning

I've since moved to london (2001 August & still living here), at least I have abit of a social life again as London has an excellent transportation system come day or night as compared to South Africa where public transportation is practically non existent. In 2003 I saw a specialist at the Moorfields eye hospital in London and was looking for any procedure that could sort out my extreme halo's when driving at night.

It was advised that I have the laser surgery which is now capable of operating at a wider "circumference" I think that was the jist of it. So then 8th October 2003 I went under the light. Mistake number 2 by the looks of things. besides it being extremely blurring during the "settling phase" I now have problems with driving during the day aswell as night. My vision intermittently blurrs 90% of the time whenever it feels like it. I can wake up with blurred vision and have it for days before having a 30mins interval where it is clear (And this is still going on 1 1/2 years after having the laser op.

It really is crippling, on bad days I end up driving to work and not even being able to read the cars numberplate in front me - and this is whilst being stationery at a set of traffic lights - I'm intermittently breaking the law due to the inconsistentcy of my vision. Then other very few rare days I can read plates from more the 20metres away (lasts for about 1hr to sometimes half a day).

End of the day, after 4 yrs of this my body now naturally goes into a state of high stress and anxiety whenever I'm driving in my car - definately not a great way to start the day..

I work on computers, which I think can cause them to tire and dry out quickly, other than that I'm stumped, and so is the specialist at the Londons Moorfields eye hospital.

Does anyone know about having a cornea transplant ??? (I'm figuring its like have a fresh start (Hoping that your eyeball accepts the transplant). Or otherwise what other option is there.

cornea transplant is a last resort. You may want to ask your doctor about RGPs. My consolence for your bad outcome. How well is your uncorrected vision in each eye now?
