I just had LASIK surgery 10 days ago after years of very careful thought about the procedure. I selected a good surgeon who used the Intralase technology – primarily because I sought to eliminate as best as possible the risks of post-surgery halos and starbursts I’d read about. Much to my disappointment, while I do have incredible day vision now without my glasses/contacts, I’m experiencing terrible night vision due to the halos and starbursts. I also find indoor lighting in my office with fluorescent lights extremely irritating because of the halo effect.

My doctor told me to be patient – that my eyes are still healing and only time will tell. Unfortunately the good friends I consulted prior to surgery, who all had LASIK and highly recommended the procedure, did not experience these side effects at all.

I can not find many accounts on the internet of people who have had these issues that then cleared up within weeks or months. I trust my doctor, but also know this can be an unpredictable side effect of LASIK. I’d appreciate hearing from anyone else who had these side effects that did in fact clear up after a few weeks or months to know that in fact it does get better for some …..

Thanks!

Hi,

give it some time and be very patient your eyes might heal much slower then other people it could get better 10 days is way too soon to tell.

whatever you do make sure you keep on putting drops in your eyes so they wont get dry that affect your vision too. and try to use something with perservative free.

Thanks for reply Reggie. I'm trying to be patient, but it's hard not knowing if this will be permanent or not. Did you have the halos and glare too? If so, how long until it cleared up for you?

Hi,

i am three months post and i still have the halos and glare at all my doctor visits they said it might go away but since my eyes heal very slow i have to be patient some days its better then others. lately its been worse and that might be becasue my eyes are dry. so i am in the same situation as you and i am really hoping that this would go away by six months. my doctor also said i might be this small percentage that might have night vision problem but since my vision got better from 20/20 to 20/15 they hoping the glare would go away. i would keep you posted.

I had customvue lasik done 15 days ago. I see starbursts - both during the day and at night, although I notice the glare coming off of things like brake lights much more prominently at night. Furthermore, my vision tests at 20-15, but it's not a CLEAR 20-15. Anyone have that experience?

David,

What you describe is very similar to what I'm going through. I'm now three weeks out. My doctor tells me this is still very early given my high correction (-7.5 in one eye and -6 in the other). What's hard is that I've talked to friends and have read posts from others with similar corrections who have not had any haloes. I'm also having a tough time with flourescent lights in my office -- they create a haze which is irritating)

Hi Christine and David.

my problem with dry eyes went away but my night vision got worse i dont know why and one point it was actully better and i am four months post surgery.

as far as the flourcent lights i had that problem too so i used to wear very light shade sunglasses but you should be fine withing two months.

Brad,

I had the Intralase FS laser -- then they also advertise the Allegretto Wave. Like Reggie, I went with the Intralase versus the blade because I had read (and my doctor told me) there was less chance for starbursts and haloes. I have to tell you, despite my clear vision, this has been very disappointing. At my 2-week appointment my doctor told me "it's normal" "be patient" and I'm trying ... but it's very disheartening every night to deal with them. I'm hoping as Reggie said that my eyes are just slow to heal.

So the laser they used to do the correction was the Allegretto wave with the Intralase to create the flap?

Brad,

I would say no, it has not improved. It seems to have changed ... almost larger haloes now than before (the stoplights seem blurrier). So that is a change, but I don't know if it's for better or worse. The flourscent lights at work seem to be a day by day deal -- sometimes it better sometimes it's worse. I'm now 3+ weeks out and would not recommend this to friends based on this agonizing wait.

Thanks for asking.
