I had LASIK on both eyes just over 3 months ago. I was over-corrected but wear prescription glasses and they give me excellent daytime vision. I do have considerable glare and halos at night. There was originally a slight distortion, with distant lights taking on the shape of a small cross which subsided if my eyes were illuminated by oncoming headlights. I tolerated these things fairly well.
However just over a month ago car headlights and taillights, distant street lamps and traffic lights began to display dramatic starbursts. The small cross-shaped aberrations had grown dramatically, almost over night. Again, they subside when my eyes are illuminated.
Both eyes are affected. So I didn’t damage one of my eyes somehow. Coincidentally I had a 2nd opinion by a different LASIK surgeon than the one who performed the original procedure about 2 days after this started happening. I was hoping to do an enhancement for the over-correction and wanted to be sure my eyes were okay. Corneal mapping, etc were all done and everything looked good. I wasn’t alarmed at that time with the new starbursts and didn’t make a big deal about them.
However now they have gotten larger and more dramatic. The only thing I could think of was the medication I started two weeks before all this started happening. I was put on Synthroid for a hypothyroid condition. Could this be effecting my eyes or causing some dilation of the pupils?? Could the thyroid somehow effect vision? The problem seems pupil related to me. But why would my pupils exhibit great dilation suddenly? Are my corneas changing perhaps?
Any info or suggestions would be of help before I go back to the ophthalmologist.
