Well like everyone on this site I have a LASIK story to tell and some questions. Immediately after surgery (1/22/02), I found I had incredibly long streaks across headlights, traffic lights, etc. My surgeon told me to be patient - they'd go away. My prescription pre-surgery was -1.50 and -1.75 and my pupils measunred less than 5 in dim light conditions. I was told GASH wouldn't be a problem for me since I didn't have it before. My surgery was done using LADARVision. Anyway, I questioned my doctor's judgment and went for a second opinion and was told I had wrinkles in both eyes.

A few days later (2/9/02), I had my dominant right eye corrected. Recovery has been slow and dryness has been bothering me. My question is this - the starbursts are back in that eye (although not to the same extreme as before) but when I shine a light right in that eye they go away completely. Doees this mean they will be permanent since they appear to be related to pupil size? By the way, I had 2 other surgical opinions and I tested less than 5 for pupil measurements there too. Anyway, given my small pupil size and low prescription, is there any reason for me to be hopeful they might clear up in time?

FYI: I'm scheduled to have the wrinkles removed in the other eye later this week. I'm seeing the surgeon (a top Boston doc) this week and I'll ask him the same questions I posted here. I'm just curious to get some validation from the doctors here. I also want to thank you for being so responsive to people's questions - this is an invaluable resource.

I had LASIK performed one year ago. My prescription was -3.50 in both eyes and no astigmatism. My pupils were measrued in the dark at 5.0 mm each. I shouldn't have night time problems based on this data, yet I do. I still see substantial starbursts at night with point light sources (far away headlights, streetlights etc.). They really don't affect my night driving since they disapate as the light source gets closer. It is however very annoying. Doctor has no explanation. He even remeasured my eyes and got the same 5.0 mm (my treatment zone was 6.0 mm). My corneas are "as smooth as glass". Figuring I'll have to live with it, but I have seen posts from others whose GASH went away 2 years post surgery.
