The new software upgrade to the VISX Star S3 blends its 6.5 mm central ablation zone out to 8.0 mm; so, it has a 1.5 mm transition zone. However, I am curious as to the size of the transition zone on the (older) VISX Star S2 with a 6.5 mm central ablation zone. Presumably, it's on the order of 0.5 mm, or so, but I'm not sure. Anyone know?

Since the docs on this board did not answer this question, I e-mailed VISX tech support, directly. According to them (and they should know), the transition zone for the S2/S3 platform without the 8.0 mm s/w upgrade is 0.4 mm, for a total ablation diameter of 6.9 mm.
