How accurate are modern microkeratomes?
The one that I am wondering about is the Bausch & Lomb Hansatome Microkeratome (I hope there is only one that will fit that description...)
By how many microns would one expect the flap thickness to vary from that intended?
ex. +/- 2um?
+/- 50um?
etc.
Just curious is all...since some folks on this board have mentioned that microkeratomes can be off by as many as 50um from the intended flap thickness...just wondering if that is true or not with modern microkeratomes?

Here is a link (http://makeashorterlink.com/?G1D62116C) to a study comparing six microkeratomes. While the median range seems reasonable, the high and lows can be really significant. This study includes the most commonly used mechanical microkeratomes.
The microkeratome that has consistently been the most accurate with the narrowest margins is the femtosecond laser from Intralase.
