Kelly,
This is rather like asking, "which is better, BMW or Mercedes?" There is no simple answer; both options are good -- and other options exist as well.
All of the better LASIK surgeons know how to get very good results with the equipment they prefer to use. You risk missing the point if you ask only about the brand name of laser, as this is only one (small) part of the bigger picture. To discount or ignore the effect of surgeon judgment, surgical team, and support staff because of hype or marketing about one laser brand or another will surely lead to flawed decision making.
CustomVue with Visx and Zyoptix with the B&L laser are both methods of wavefront-guided laser treatment, which is now recognized as slightly better than "conventional" treatment (that doesn't take wavefront measurements into account). The Alcon LADAR laser is also capable of wavefront-guided treatment, and the Wavelight Allegretto laser is capable of wavefront-optimized treatment as well.
Choosing a LASIK surgeon wisely is a complex process. You can read what I have to say on the "Finding a LASIK Surgoen" page of our site, http://www.la-sight.com/LS_consult_finding.asp.
We would be pleased to consult with you in our west LA office if you are interested in our care.
Warm regards and Happy Holidays,
David A. Wallace, M.D.
