I plan on performing Lasik on my eyes to get rid of my glasses. I went to the doctor yesterday at LasikPlus and made a tentative appointment for this Saturday. I have a question and would like an answer for them very soon. Please help me here.

I have nearsightedness in both eyes -2.0 approximately, very minor stgmatism. The doctor office recommended the Flying Spot Laser which is 1399 per eye. I know I should not haggle when it comes to my eyes but I did it anyway. After haggling on the price the office told me that I can have my surgery done with Broad Beam Laser which is about half the price of the first one.

Now can someone be kind enough to tell me if it is going to ok to go with the cheaper option. The doctors office sounded like both works out the same. I am really confused.

A broad beam laser is considerably older technology than a flying spot laser with statistically less desirable results for most patients.

I highly recommend you do two things. Number one on that list is go to at least two other Lasik providers and get additional opinions on what is appropriate for you. The other is SLOW DOWN. You are considering microsurgery on your eyes. You need to do your own research about the potential risks and potential benefits of the proposed plans. Are you really sure that Lasik is best for you? PRK, LASEK, or Epi-Lasik may be much better. You will live with the results of this decision (good or bad) for the rest of your life. Read through this website. Read through our website. Make an informed decision.

My advice to you is not to do the LASIK and wait for a better technology. LASIK damages the eyes in one way or another and many of the doctors performing the procedure do not have a profound understanding of what they are dealing with. Please research LASIK complications thoroughly before making a decision. Look at as many journal articles and legitimate research sources as possible.

Once ICL technology matures a little more and is applicable to a wider range of patients, you might want to consider going that route instead. At least the procedure is reversible.
