My wife had monovision lasik surgery on March 17,2000. For the 1st week she saw great. However, starting the 2nd week she was seeing double vision out of her right (dominant) eye for the bulk of each day. She has followed the doctors orders of lubricating the eye, etc. She went back for her 2 week post op exam and was told she is seeing 20/20. However, when she closes her left eye she still sees blurred, double vision. The doctor advised it is too early to tell what the cause is. Is this something that will or should go away over time or will an enhancement solve the problem?

It is still too early to tell but if she is seeing 20/20 it is unlikely that an enhancement will be needed at this time. The most likely culprit is a dry cornea which is not unusual after lasik. Take your doctor's advice and use artificial tear drops (I like Genteal) often. Good luck.

I also had monovision (only lasik on my right, dominant eye). I also developed double vision--although I was reading 20-20, it's hard to read street signs when you see the same image right underneath! The lasik was done 9-18-99; I had an enhancement 3-4-00. Although my vision is still fluctuating somewhat, I no longer see double (sometimes a little blurry; sometimes amazingly clear). The cause of my double vision was a "central island" I developed. I think I also have a problem with dry eye--maybe that's why it's blurry sometimes. I use drops (Refresh Tears, I think) all the time. But overall, I'm very pleased with the results. My unenhanced eye doesn't interfere with my distance vision at all (& vice versa). At my Grandson's ballgame yesterday afternoon, I could read the numbers on the back of the uniforms of the team playing on the opposite side of the field--& it's a big field! They can tell if she has a central island by the topography picture they take at her checkups. (I hated the double vision too-so glad to get rid of it. But I'm afraid it will come back! My topography shows the same hourglass-shaped yellow area, but it's shifted sideways a bit.) Good luck!
