Good evening, Dr.'s. I was wondering how old you have to be to get LASIK? Thank-you very much!

What is more important than chronological age is the stability of your eyes. Most doctors will not perform refractive surgery on someone under age 18, but even if you are older than 18 refractive surgery is probably unwise if your vision is still changing.
Refractive surgery will make a permanent change in your refractive error, but will not stop your eyes from changing. If you have refractive surgery too soon, you may need it again as your eyes change.
There are a few doctors who will perform refractive surgery on juveniles, however only in extreme cases where all other forms of correction have failed.
