"Docs: Over-correction extreme?" Posted by Christine on 08:38:34 6/09/2001

I am 2 weeks post-Lasik; went from -10 to +4. My doctor is at a loss to explain this extreme over-correction, and while I wait the 3 months for my vision to "settle" I am doing nothing but switching between 2 pair of reading glasses, one for distance and another for close work. Needless to say, I am not happy with this arrangement and have already had to give up a job because I could not see well enough to perform it.
Any thoughts/advice/encouragement?

Overcorrections (and undercorrections) are more common in higher prescriptions like yours. Since you are only 2 weeks out I would definitely be patient. What you may want to talk to your doctor about is using contact lenses temporarily to help with the distance part of your vision and then the readers on top of them to read. Some people have found that using a contact lens with Acular eye drops can help induce some regression (although +4 would be tough to overcome with this technique). I have seen some patients regress significantly over 3-6 months which would be the soonest time until you get an enahncement.
So, be patient and try the contacts. Good luck and let me know if I can answer any other questions.
