In one of his messages Dr.Trattler said that one can not get a better vision after Lasik compare to the correction he had before (e.g. when somebody's vision with glasses is 20/40 he will be 20/40 after Lasik again). With my RGP lenses (-8.0;-5.75) i see well at Snellen tabelle (the last row very clear with both eyes) It is hard for me to read to work with a PC - for near work. Could this be corrected wit refractive surgery?
Thank you and excuse me - my english is not very good :(

Dr. Trattler is correct in that your vision will not typically improve after LASIK surgery better than what you started with. This may also be true for the reading, however, you are young and should have no problem reading yet. it may be more eyestrain at the computer, which will probably not change after LASIK. In addition, during your preop exam, you will have a cycloplegic refraction (one with the dilating drops), which may indicate that your current prescription may be too strong. If that is the case, then you may have an easier time reading after surgery if there is not an overcorrection.

Hope this helps.

In my case, I had a small astigmatism that I did not consider worth dealing with for contact lenses. I didn't want to deal with the hassle of toric lenses so I lived with it.

LASIK corrected that astigmatism. Now, I actually see better than I did with contacts. Technically, I probably could have seen this good before but, realistically, I wasn't.

Also, I do get some nighttime halos due to my large 7.5 mm pupils but, paradoxically, I can also see better at night. I can read street signs that I struggled to read before. My night vision is worse in one respect but better in another.

My prescription was approximately -4.5 in both eyes. Offhand, I don't know how much the astigmatism was. I'll check on the next office visit. I'll have my one-year checkup next month.

My contact lenses were both -4.5. As I mentioned, my contact lenses did not correct any of the astigmatism.
