My OD said I am on the borderline for being a good candidate (everything else such as corneal thickness is good) because of my high Rx. He said that I shouldn't expect a 100% chance of getting 20/20, rather a 66% chance. The other 33% chance, I should expect something between 20/25 - 20/40. Which is still very good comparing to now.

HOWEVER, a friend of mine just got back from a -9.0 Rx a month ago.. a month later, she is still at -1.5 Rx and REQUIRES glasses.

Is she a rare case?

regression is common, especially for high myopes. If you "must" have perfect 20/20 vision, dont bother with lasik. If you can not tolerate a possible undercorrection, dont bother. Lasik is advertized to reduce your dependancy on glasses. Some people still need glasses part time, such as to drive. However being -1.5 is MUCH better than being -9 youd be very functional without glasses and only need them for driving, movies and certain activities. Plus the bonus is you wont need reading glasses when you are middle age. Many people are actually happy being -1 to -2 because it means they dont really need reading glasses, maybe except for fine print. Their distance vision is slightly blurry but not bad enough to have any real dependence on glasses except to drive really :)
