we are looking for others we have extreme nearsightness. lasiks
is not an option for my husband so we would like others who
have had phakic iol to share there experince .My husband is a
-25.00 -27.0 we are currently weighing options. He has been
fortunate to have very healthy eyes however he is blind without
his contacts and his eyeglasses perscription is just to strong to
see out of he sees 200/400 with glasses but 20/50 20/60 with
rgp lenses. When he is not wearing contacts he is functionally
blind. He is 30 years old with no health problems and we also
have 4 children 3 are extremely myopic as well -10.0 -8.00
-17.50 one child is not yet nearsighted he is 2 and hopefully
won't be like the others who were born with those numbers. We
hope there is something out there that can help our children in
the future. I am just tired of hearing we can't do nothing for you
so please share your stories and suggestions with us we crave
any info.

Hi Rhonda,

I am a 23 year old male with a prescription of approximately -23 in both eyes. I have an astigmatism of -3.5 in my left eye and -3.0 in my right eye.

I had the oppurtunity to get ICL surgery done on Dec. 30 for my right eye and Jan. 3 for my left eye. My pre-operative best corrected visual acuity was 20/80 in my right eye and 20/60 in my left achieved with soft toric contact lenses.

Since the surgery my post operative best corrected visual acuity is 20/40 in each eye. This will be with minor prescription glasses as the doctor could not completely correct my vision with the ICL's. He did offer to do LASIK on top to correct the remaining refraction however I would like to stick with some small glasses at the moment.

Before surgery I could not see anything without my glasses or contact lenses. Now, I can wake up and see things. Not to mention the fact my distance vision has improved tremendously. However all is not roses for me. I have a severe issue with halo effect and glare at night. I don't feel as if I can drive at night as the glare is overwhelming. After having my right eye done and right before having my left eye surgery, I confronted the surgeon about the issue. He said that with my refraction it is a complication of the surgery. A post-operative care doctor said that it would go away with time. I am relatively worried about this issue and am not sure what I should beiieve. Mind you it's only been a week since my surgery.

I would recommend the surgery due to the increased freedom. I am hoping the complication of halo effect/glare will dissipate over the coming weeks. Perhaps a doctor can provide more input on the surgery.

Thank you for sharing your experience.I did have a few questions
Did you experience halos before surgery at all and the surgery
intensify this problem. We were also surprised that you wore a soft
contact lense. my husband has worn rgp since he was 12 and
would love to find an extended wear lense.(He worries if there is
ever a burgalar or fire or other emergency that he would be useless
to his family). At nightime he is literally blind and cannot see
doorways or windows unless they are illumanited .This is a major
reason he desires corrective surgery.

I too could not see doorways or much of anything at night without my lenses. In regards to the halo effect, I did not experience any symptoms of it before surgery. I am hoping with the recovery period that my vision will improve somewhat. If not I will have to pursue other avenues such as non-glare glasses or an eye-drop known as Alphagan that assists in the reduction of night-glare.

The surgery itself was painless and took approximately 15 minutes per eye. In the daytime I am very happy with the results. It is just the night glare that I am weary of. It has still been approximately one week since surgery so I am crossing my fingers in regards to some sort of improvement.

Apologies for the delay in reply. Unfortunately the Halo effect has not subsided. To counteract this in the short term I have been prescribed an eye drop that changes my pupil size. I take it an hour before driving at night to reduce the halo effect. However, I don't want to have to worry about taking drops all the time to get around in the evening. I will be visiting a follow-up care doctor soon to review my options in dealing with the Halo effect. I will report back any news.

For a more prompt reply I can be reached at . I check this board very rarely.

Hi Everyone, I have a prescription of -11 in both eyes and found out that I am not a candidate for Lasik surgery because my corneal tissues are too thin. Does anyone know if the IOL surgery is available anywhere in Canada?

Thanks
