I am 28 years old and have high myopia and astigmatism ( myopia -7.5 , astigmatic power= -3D) in both eyes. I was exploring the option of LASIK to restore my vision to normal. But the doctor I consulted advised that I should go for IOL. She said LASIK cannot correct this high power fully and I will have to wear glasses after LASIK. I am apprehensive about removing the natural lens and putting in artificial ones. Can someone help me in finding answers to my questions?

1. Is it true that LASIK cannot correct high myopia and astigmatism as in my case?

2. I read that in one procedure IOL lens is placed over natural lens and in another (cateract removal) natural lens is totally replaced by IOL. Which one should I go for? The first option looks good to me as it is a reversible procedure.

3. Natural lens has the ability to contract/expand according to the distance of the object you are trying to view. Can artificial lens do the same?

4. Can someone recommend a good doctor/hospital in Bangalore in India who has expertise in this area?

whatever I say will be my opinion only. Can you get other opinions with your doctors? I have heard of lasik treating as much as 10-12 diopters but maybe your cornea isnt thick enough? How much correction did your doctor say she can correct? There are risks associated with either procedure. If you remove your natural lense, youll lose all accomodation ability. I dont know for sure how well IOLs can correct astigmistim, ask your doctor this, I do not want to assume anything. If you do alot of close work, in my OPINION perhaps the partial correction lasik can do might be more helpful, your residual myopia will put you off from reading glasses. If you have any further questions reguarding my opinion, let me know. If you want any facts, ask doctors or you may look it up on the internet :)
