I had Visian ICLs implanted in March of this year. I was approx. -10.00 in both eyes with .25 astigmatism in left. I am seeing 20/15 Right and 20/20 left even without correction for the astigmatism. My biggest complaint would be the halos around lights at night; however, the quality of my day vision more than makes up for this inconvenience. I am over 40 so I still need reading glasses (before I wore bifocal contacts). I elected ICLs because I was not a candidate for LASIK (thin corneas). Contacts were becoming a problem due to dry eyes. I did not want to wear glasses as primary correction. If you do not do alot of night activities, I feel this is an excellent option. Also, ask your doctor if your pupil size is such that halos are a minimal/ high risk. Hope this helps.

The Visian Phakic Intraocular Lens (IOL) is different than the STAAR Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL). We have a detailed article about both Visian and the ICL at http://www.usaeyes.org/lasik/faq/lasik-visian-verisyse-icl-p-iol.htm that explains the differences and relative advantages/disadvantages.

Steve's response raises a very important point about the implanted lenses. The size of the optic of this lens is limited. If the patient’s pupils naturally dilate larger than the size of that optic, glare, starbursting, and halos are likely to be the result.

Steve, ask your doctor about using Alphagan P. This is an eye drop glaucoma medication that also reduces the size of the pupil. It has worked quite well for people with pupil size related night vision problems. Use one drop in the evening and it can last for hours.

I assume you meant to say that the Artisan/Verisyse is different from the Staar Visian ICL. (Staar is the manufacturer, Visian is the trade name of their product. The Verisyse is made by AMO and known as the Artisan in other countries.)

Hi. I am very myopic, 38 years old, and -13.25 in right eye and -12.5 in the left eye. Astigmatism in one eye is -2.00 and the other is -1.5. I was turned away from a very respectable lasik eye surgeon to perform Epilasik due to the high likelihood of a poor outcome and developing a haze. Also, due to my thin corneas, even with Epilasik, there would have been very little tissue left to do enhancements. So, my doctor gave me Phakic IOLs as an alternative, specifically he recommended the Visian ICL. I am making an appointment to get all the preoperative measurements made. I have done much research and am aware of the risk but I am ready to decrease my dependency on RGP contacts, which are becoming very uncomfortable to me and cause me to have red and tired eyes. Glasses have not provided me with good vision in quite some time. I will try to return to give updates on my progress towards getting the Visian ICL.
