Hi,
I was 2 months pregnant when i decided to have a lasik done for the second time on my left eye.I had lasik done on both of my eyes 8 months prior to that but the left eye was not was corrected fully. So I had to go for a second one.I consulted the doctor supposed to do my lasik and even my gynaecologist. Both of them said no problem you can go ahead and have the lasik done.So i had the lasik done and the doc told he will prescibe me non steroid eye drops as i was pregnant.I was just going thru your forums and found it very silly of me to have had lasik done during pregnancy. Please tell me whether the lasik or the eye drops could have harmed my baby in any way.I am scared to death whether he might have any health complications.Thank you.

Hi, I hope I can help put your mind at ease so you can enjoy your pregnancy which I am sure will lead to a healthy baby. The main reason we don't like doing LASIK during pregnancy is your presecription can be unstable, due to hormonal changes and fluid retention rather than fear of complications from the cortisone drops to the fetus. The amount of systemic cortisone absorbed from eye drops is extremelty low and you most likely only used them for a few days. At times, systemic cortisone is used during pregnancy, for example if the mother has an asthma attack, and my understanding is that even at these higher doses, the risk to the fetus is still considered low but you might ask your obstretician about this to help put your mind at ease.
Good luck with your eyes and your baby.
