I am a 58 year old male. I wear bifocals.
My prescription is:
S +1.25 C +0.50 ADD 2.50
S +1.00 C +0.50 ADD 2.50
I want to have Lasik procedure to cure only the everyday use of glasses. I do not mind wearing for reading, glasses. Reason is that I do not want to take the chance on both conditions.
The question is: How will it effect my reading ability. Will it get worse?
Thank you
George Kletsidis
PS I have allready visited a doctor and was told that I am a good candidate for Lasik.

Your prescription is within the parameters for Lasik, and you may be able to have wavefront-guided surgery with the Visx S4 laser. You should investigate this option.
You are now hyperopic (farsighted, longsighted), astigmatic (cornea shaped more like the back of a spoon than the top of a ball) and presbyopic (natural lens does not change focus, requiring bifocals). This particular combination often provides poor quality vision at all distances.
I recommend you investigate monovision correction (http://www.usaeyes.org/faq/subjects/monovision.htm) and try both monovision and full correction with contact lenses for several weeks. This will give you a good idea if you would actually like the probable result from Lasik.
