I recently had the 1.5 hour free exam to determine the possibility of lasik. The range in price was explained to me (lower to higher) and the person doing the initial part of the exam said everything looked good for lasik. The next round (person) stated my cornea was not thick enough and I could opt for PRK, which of course is the most expensive. How could the two of them be so far off and is this thing really about the money??? How would a second opinion benefit me if all these folks are after is the money?
Thanks

I just had PRK on Nov 2 2005. The final result of PRK is generally better than Lasik and less side effects. BUT I must warn you, in most cases it is painful (hurts like hell in my case for one week), you have to go there often (every day during the first week, then every 2 weeks for few months), and it is long to heal (6 months to a year). But I assure you, if I had the choice, I would do it again a PRK and not Lasik. Too much possible problem with Lasik that you can avoid with PRK.
My opinion!

N.B. If you go ahead, first take your vitamin C 1000mg a day for a month before and 2 months after. Also sunglasses for outside (UV type) for six months (not joking!). And don't worry about the surgery like I did : a PRK is really no pain no fuss, they don't cut like a Lasik. A child could do it (a child surgeon that is

I had PRK about a month ago. I went for the initial consultation hoping to be a good candidate for LASIK. However, my doctor said that due to my myopia of -7 for each eye that there would be a better chance of getting back to 20/20 vision with PRK than with LASIK. PRK is definitely more invasive but I am currently at 20/40 in my left eye and 20/30 in my right. I can see well enough to drive and work which is a huge improvement. I have noticed that I see ghost or shadow images which started about two weeks after surgery. I hope this is part of the healing process and it subsides. If it does I will have considered the results successful even if I ultimately do not get to 20/20. The cost for PRK and Lasik was the same where I had the surgery. You may want to look at other places. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
