I HAVE BEEN PREOPED FOR THE PRK PROCEDURE. I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CROHNS DISEASE 39 YEARS AGO. I HAVE HAD SEVERE PROBLEMS WITH THE CROHNS WITH MULTIPLE BOWEL SURGERIES. I ALSO HAVE HAD A THYROIDECTOMY 2 YRS. AGO. I AM CURRENTLY BEING TREATED WITH HUMERA FOR THE CROHNS AND ON SYNTHROID FOR THE THYROID. I ALSO ALREADY HAVE PROBLEMS WITH DRY EYES. MY QUESTION IS--HAVE ANY OF YOU DONE THIS PROCEDURE ON THIS TYPE OF PATIENT. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW YOUR OPINIONS OF WHETHER OR NOT I SHOULD PROCEED. THANK YOU. DEBBIE

Debbie,
I had a complete thyroidectomy and am on Synthroid. I had Prk 3 weeks ago and Doc said it was no problem. I also have dry eyes. Prk was a better choice for me over lasik. Dry eye was one of the reasons I chose prk. Hopefully Dr. Trattler can help you will your question on Crohn's.

Hello Kelly, had a question for you, if you don't mind. How did your PRK surgery go ? How quickly did you get rid of the bklury vision ? I had PRK done 4 days ago, my vision is still very blurry, only had one eye done, will do other eye in a few months, My Dr. probably told me how soon to expect the blurry vision, but I can't remember. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Keith

Well I'm a little over 7 weeks post prk. I had blurry vision and moderate ghosting (double vision) until about 4-6 weeks. The blurry vision is completely gone. Infact I can see 20/15 in both eyes. I still have slight ghosting in both eyes, but only notice it when reading some street signs. I also had some degree of dry eye and this can slow down the healing process. Once I started using Genteal gel in the pm my vision greatly improved. Remember with prk your vision will fluctuate until you have a "smooth" epithelium. It only takes a few days to grow back, but weeks to months to completely smooth out.
I am thrilled with my results and I'm still improving weekly. I would do it again in a heartbeat!
How are things going with your recovery?
Best of Luck,
Kelly

Thanks for the reply,
I'm 1 week post op, vision is still blurry, good in the am and fluctuates through out the day. I only had one eye done, will have the other eye done in about 2 months, have to wait and see how fast this one heals. I was unable to get both done at the same time, had to be back to work 2 days after the prk was done. Alittle challenging. I'm looking forward to the healing.
Thanks, keith
