I am going to opt for the monovision surgery.
Since they will be correcting both eyes 1, for distance and 1, for reading sounds weird I hope it will be OK..I figured I would give this a try and if I did not like it then I could have the reading eye changed for distance at a later time.
I just don't see many reviews on people being satisfied/dissatisfied with monovision. My Doctor said 95% are happy with it..is this correct?

In my opinion it is not wise to have monovision surgery without first trying monovision in contacts for at least three weeks to see if you like it.

You may find that you need a very small difference in power between the dominant and nondominant eyes. You may need a great difference between the two to get the effect you want. You may find that you cannot tolerate monovision at all. About 1/3rd of people who try monovision do not like it and go back to full distance correction with reading glasses.

It is MUCH better to go through the monovision trial and error period with contact lenses than with surgery. All surgery has risk and it is more than fair to say that the risk of contacts is less than the risk of multiple surgeries.

W have a detailed article regarding monovision correction at http://www.usaeyes.org/faq/subjects/monovision.htm

Since I have been wearing these glass's now for 6 weeks I am not reallyprepared to wait longer by trying out contact lenses (in Monovision) because you have to wait at least 4 weeks after wearing contacts before they can do surgury on you. I am all set for the Surgury on Tuesday so lets hope it all works out for me and if it doesn't then I can always go for the enhancement at a later time..
I think I will take my chances..I am so excited...I have met a couple of people that love the Monovision..I just wish I could have read more reviews..Thanks for your inport..Elaine

I hope that you respond to the board and let us know how you are doing. I really find it hard to believe that your surgeon is going ahead with the mnovision without any type of trial. I hate to be blunt, but that seems VERY irresponsible to me. I have monovision after getting only one eye enhanced after my original LASIK surgery and subsequent regression. I did a contact lens trial and it actualy took me a couple of different lens combinations to get the one that worked for me. Too much of a difference between eyes made me naseous. I am happy with the correction now, but it did take a few months to settle down. My best advise for you is NOT TO RUSH the surgery. A few more weeks in contacts or glasses is really nothing. If I have learned anything about LASIK is to be PATIENT. The recovery process can be long and frustrating. That said, I do really hope that things work out for you!

Hi Glen,

i had my surgery custom lasik four months ago the day after suregery i was 20/20 four months later the right eye is weaker then the left its -1.00 my doctor said icould have an enchancment from exprience should i wait a bit longer and see if the right eye would get better or after four months it is what it is. the Dr. told me that its what i would have but she would take more tests to compare the results from last visit. i dont know what to do and if i should go for the risk of being overcorrected and i still dont know what happens if i would be overcorrected.

You didnt ask for monovision, but it just happened to be the case. I know your still young but youll be thanking yourself when you get to 35 and especially 40 and find yourself not reaching for reading glasses. I am only 23 and I take my glasses off to read or its all blurry. Ive also been told im too young but it happens. KEEP the monovision! do NOT get more lasik!
