I had my pre-op yesterday, and my surgery is tomorrow. I was so nervous, I blanked when it was my turn to ask the doctor my questions. So I called today and found out my numbers and just want to know if I sound like a good candidate for surgery...

My ablation or treatment zone> I couldnt find this out, said the doctor was still working on them.

Pupil size> room light- 5mm dim light- 6mm with culvard or something sounded like that- 7mm

Corneal thickness> 530

Prescription> -4.75 -.75 Left and -4.75 -1.75 Right

Nasal flap

After finding this website, and a couple of others, I'm scared to death and really thinking of cancelling because I couldnt live with some of the stuff I've saw. Glasses suck, but at least I see clear. Could a doctor tell me his opinion please? Thank you so much!

I can't tell you what to do. I can only tell you my experience. And, let me say that being nervous and scared about the procedure is VERY normal. I had LASIK last month. My first consultation was 5 years ago, but I waited this long to do it...and I was still nervous.

Your numbers look good. The issues at hand for me would be the following:

1) Do I trust the surgeon?
2) Have I considered all of the pros and cons?
3) Do I know the risks/rewards?

I am THRILLED that I had LASIK, but my recovery has not been perfect. My nearsightedness and astigmatism were much stronger than yours. My corneas were thinner, and my pupils were bigger....all big risk factors. I have had to use drops VERY frequently, and my left eye is better than my right. But, I can see for the first time in 25 years without glasses or contacts. I do not regret it for a second!!!!

As far as what you will read on the internet, few people who are happy post on message boards. Message boards are more for people with complaints or problems because they are looking for solutions. The only reason I lurk around here is to see if I can help someone. I don't know anyone in real life who regrets their LASIK. But, there certainly are some with bad results. My surgeon told me the risks are very small, but when they happen to you, they are 100% in your case. So, you need to be aware of them and make an educated decision.

Please know that your nerves are NORMAL. But, you need to also know that it is not too late to cancel. You need to feel comfortable with your decision.

I hope you will update us either way. I will be anxious to follow your recuperation.

Best wishes!!!!!!

Hi Laura - what you're feeling is totally normal. I was very nervous but now that I look back at the surgery it's really nothing. I have had worse experiences at the dentist. There is no pain whatsoever and it's very quick. Go for it, you won't regret it. Cheers :)

HI Laura - one last thing. My main concern on day of surgery was my risk of regression. At my pre Op apt I asked no questions as I really had no understnading of the procedure and just assumed everybody had the same level of success. I would suggest if you can swing it to also get some sort of warrenty for your eyes, if only for one year. I got the one year warranty and it's really just about peace of mind. Sometimes the healing process overpowers that of the correction. Good luck and let us know who it goes :)
