Under what circumstances might Mitomycin-C be prescribed post-Lasik surgery in the form of drops? What I am thinking is, if it is only used on the cornea during PRK and the doctor is cautious not to let it touch any other ocular surface containing blood vessels because of potential tissue melting, how can it be prescribed post-surgery in drop form which would clearly contact the entire eye?

If MMC is prescribed post-Lasik, is there a maximum duration for usage of this drug?

Would there ever be a situation where a patient would be advised to increase MMC drops from one drop twice a day to one drop four times a day for post-Lasik pain and blurriness?

If MMC is such a potent medication, should a patient who may not have a full understanding of its potentcy and potential complications be permitted to self-administer it at home unsupervised?

Lastly, from reading the board I have noticed mistakes turn up (not by the doctors, of course) regarding mistaking the proper dosage as .2% instead of .02% What would be the probable outcome of using MMC at .2% potency one drop four times a day over several weeks?

Mitomycin C would not be prescribed for patient use. Its application requires a doctor.

The use of Mitomycin C four times a day in any dilution would be potentially catastrophic to the cornea. Mitomycin C is very strong medicine that is probably best avoided if possible, but appropriate when necessary.
