I had LASIK one week ago with monovision. I had roughly -9.5 to -10.00 refractive error in both eyes with moderate astigmatism. After LASIK, I am unable to read newsprint without 3.0 readers and everything midrange is blurry. Distance vision appears to be about 20/40 which I'm pleased with.

Can I hope to be able to read larger type as on a computer screen without use of glasses as my eyes heal or should I expect to need glasses for reasonably good vision midrange and close up? My doctor told me before surgery that I should able to use monovision to read most things except small print without glasses eventually but right now, everything smaller than 1/2 inch is blurry and I don't feel I can go anywhere without glasses and I wonder how much improvement I can expect in the weeks and months to come.

Also if enhancement is recommended in the future to correct distance to 20/20, does that make the near vision worse still and vice versa, if I want to make the near vision better, would I lose distance vision?

Thanks for your help.

Have patience! One week is too soon to know what your final vision will be, you are healing and may still experience changes. (hopefully improvement)
For those over age 40, generally speaking, the better your distance vision is, the poorer your near vision will be.
Monovision corrects one eye for distance and one for close focus. It is a compromise intended to give you a greater chance to function without glasses, but many people with monovision will still need to use correction for some activities.
You must have realistic expectations...
LASIK can improve your distance vision, but it cannot make your eyes young again.
