Hi. I'm a twenty-two year old male with 8mm pupils who once suffered from moderate myopia (-5.00 in the right eye, -4.75 in the left). Then, almost 6 months ago, I chose to shell out 5 grand and undergo customvue LASIK with the VISX S4. The surgery was performed by a reputable surgeon, who assured me that he had done plenty of eyes with large pupils without any complications. Since then, I've experienced halos, starbursts, etc. at night with both eyes, and ghosting with my left eye in most artificially lit conditions. I see better than 20/20 in natural light. I assumed that these problems were due to pupil size.
Now, when I went in for my three-month check-up, I asked about an enhancement. My surgeon said that my eyes were healing well, but agreed that the problems I am experiencing were due to pupil size. He said he definitely did not think an enhancement would be necessary. He then gave me some alphagen, told me to try the drops for a month, and hurried me out the door.
Well, my eyes have not improved. The alphagen (I've tried three different bottles) doesn't seem to do anything. Also, my surgeon does not offer a 6-month appointment as part of the package. At my 3-month appointment, he basically just told me that my eyes would probably be better at 6 months, and didn't even mention anything about scheduling another appointment. I booked another appointment at the 6 month mark out of my own pocket with the hopes of getting my surgeon to at least consider an enhancement (or give me a very good reason why I shouldn't have one. Enhancements within a year are free).
Does anyone have any idea of why the alphagen isn't working for me?
Shouldn't my surgeon at least consider doing another wavescan on me to see how much area over the pupil isn't corrected, or to see if there is a slightly decentered ablation? Wouldn't all he have to do is just fill out or increase the diameter of ablation?
I feel taken in. I'm glad I found this site.
