Hi I just had lasik done last Wednesday, and my pupils measured at 8mm. I live in Houston and went to 2 consultations, Dr. Koch at Baylor Eye, and Dr. Holladay at Holladay lasik Institute.
Both are rated top 25 docs in the country.
Dr. Koch guaranteed that I would have halos and starburst bc of my large pupils-at least he was honest. Baylor had the Visx Custom Vue laser. Then I went to Dr. Holladay who said my pupils weren't a problem, he had several lasers to choose from and he used the Allegretto Wave laser on me. I also had intra-lasik done- he no longers uses the blade technique.
All in all I'm glad I went with Dr. Holladay. My night vision is perfect-no halos, and no dry eye. I am so pleased with the outcome I went to see the fireworks on the 4th, and i couldn't believe how clear, and sharp my vision was. So far so good. I am still in the healing phase so my vision is still adjusting slightly, but I am EXTREMELY happy with my results. I just had my one week post op, and everything is healing perfect. I was -4.00 in one eye and -3.75 in the other. My corneas I believe were measured at 560. The cost was 4,290 for both eyes.
Well worth the investment.

I also have 8mm pupils and was concerned. How big an ablation zone did you get? I know most lasers use 6.5mm zone, did yours use bigger than that? How thin is the intralase flap? My corneas are thinner than yours at 550 and if the flap is 130 and I am -5.25(left) -5(right) I would need 100 of ablation zone with wavefront based on 8mm ablation. Therefore I wont have much over 300 cornea left, might not have enough for an enhancement if I dont wanna go below 300. What was your uncorrected vision?(most likley 20/300)what was your vision with glasses and what is it now? Is it every bit as good? I am curious to know more how your lasik went.

It would definitely be valuable if raegan (the first poster) would come back and continue this thread. It would be really interesting to get all the details to understand how this immediate good result was physically possible. Maybe reagan's peripheral cornea was already before surgery less myopic than the central cornea?
